Velvet And Velour Are The New Black For Holiday Attire
Some contemporary apparel trends come back and slightly scare women away from them. At first sight, this trend might make a woman run to the hills, but if you just relax, take a look and realize that velvet and velour are coming back in the right forms you might want to actually own these pieces.
The most common way to wear velvet this season is through a layering piece or a blazer or jacket. Velvet and velour, in the past, may have only been saved for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, but this year you can wear this trend all season long. There is no stopping the amount of times you can wear velvet or velour in the next few months, holiday or not.
Velour used to only be "cool" if you wore it on a Juicy Couture or Twisted Heart sweat outfit; thankfully, this trend is not the case anymore. Velour is the sister fabric to velvet and has one huge difference that designers take into consideration this season. Velvet is 100% cotton and has no stretch in it at all, while velour is 80% cotton and 20% polyester. This amount of polyester makes any fabric stretchy and can be used for very different accents than velvet, making a woman feel comfortable in a velour skirt that is not a size 4.
The Free People Tarot Card Reader Tank as pictured below is made of incredibly comfortable velour. It is a beautiful dusty peach color. This tank can be worn on its own or as a layering piece.
The most popular way to wear both these fabrics this year is on a blazer or jacket. You will not only see these fabrics on girly dresses and skirts, but now in tops and tanks to wear as layering pieces.
The Line & Dot Raspberry Velvet Jacket below is a cute combination with its girlie raspberry color and just a hint of the hot military look with its two copper hanging emblems on the right chest.
The Free People Blue Velvet Fit & Flare Jacket below is perfect for your weekend holiday activities. Layer it over a cute ruffle collared blouse or a metallic top for some added fun. It can also be worn with jeans to give it a more casual look.
As you can see these are just a few examples of the many cute and fashionable offerings this season. So be on the look out for your perfect piece of velvet or velour to add to your wardrobe this season as they are the new black.
